Last summer, Fr. David Twomey from the Manchester Airport Chaplaincy visited the Knutsford Deanery Synod to talk about his role of a being a chaplain at the airport, helping a wide range of people travelling through the airport. The outcome of the meeting was that we agreed to support the chaplaincy by supplying knitted Trauma Teddies. These are given out to children arriving from overseas who may be extremely traumatised through what they have experienced back home and then arrive in the United Kingdom with so much uncertainty in their lives.
On December 16th Mike Duncombe and myself visited the Airport after our Deanery Chapter Meeting to deliver teddies kindly knitted by volunteers in several Churches from our Deanery. David was hugely appreciative to receive these especially as they had run out of stock! As he said "The Trauma Teddies really do provide a warm welcome to the airport for children who may have arrived from very difficult circumstances and I am hugely grateful to the Deanery for doing this."
