O little town of Bethlehem is one of our Christmas carols and we happily carry on- how still we see thee lie. It is obvious that peace on earth is certainly not established in that part of the world. How is it with the rest? Bethlehem and the Holy Land are not the only places of unrest and fear gets to people when we think about terrorists being active to get their point across. Did Jesus get his point across when He became one of us? He wanted to share our fate, He came to bear our sins and it seems that He carries more weight every year we move on. We are powerless against terrorist attacks, it is too much violence for the average individual. That is a bonus. But isn’t there something we can do? I believe we can, but we need to change our usual thinking and Christmas is a good time to do that. What about a New Year’s resolution of committing ourselves to a small act of peace-making? Go against the expectation of society to just live for ourselves, but make a contribution to peace in little things. A smile when we would rather respond angrily, because we were offended. Forgive the rude remark and respond differently. Christmas must make us want to share in the incarnation. Try to be an ally with Christ and bear some of the pain happily. Let Him not only share in our fate, but let us support Him in his choice. Only when we join hands in sharing the peace of Christmas can we become stronger and make a statement as Christians. We are supposed to be foolish for his sake and loose face. He did! I wish you all a blessed and peaceful Christmas. Alja |
