Lent Begins in February
Ash Wednesday - 25th February
Ash Wednesday ushers in Lent on 25th February when we begin our preparation for Easter with special services. The services, which include the imposition of ashes, will be at 10 am and 8pm on that day. If you would like to know more about this tradition, see the article in the February edition of the parish magazine.
It is our custom at St Cross to hold Lent Study Groups. The groups are very relaxed and informal and provide an opportunity to grow in fellowship as we discuss and learn together.
Lent Groups will be held on Wednesday Mornings after the 10am service, for five weeks beginning the week after Ash Wednesday on 4th March.
It is also hoped to run an evening group and whilst the day has yet to be confirmed it is likely to be a Thursday. For more details, contact the Vicar.
Revd Jayne is researching appropriate material for the groups. As soon as the topic and the material for the study groups has been confirmed details will be published here.
Also during Lent, Morning Prayer continues Monday to Thursday at 7.30am in the Lady Chapel.
You may wish to join a group or come to Morning Prayer as part of your Lenten discipline.
Lent also provides a good opportunity to do some extra reading and there are many books available which provide food for thought for our journey through Lent. Many of these include a daily reading, a reflection and a prayer. If you would like some ideas for something to read, please contact Revd Jayne or Julie Withers.
